MOFA issues travel warning for Thailand

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) issued a travel warning for Thailand Wednesday, advising that travelers to Bangkok and seven surrounding provinces remain alert amid growing anti-government sentiment.

The MOFA advised travelers to avoid visiting or staying in the protest zones in the interest of personal safety.

According to the MOFA, the Thai government has announced that the Internal Security Act will be enforced in Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Samut Prakan, Chachengsao, Nakorn Pathom, Samut Sakorn and Phranakorn Sri Ayudhya March 11-23 in light of information that anti government protestors plan to demonstrate in Bangkok March 12.

The MOFA advised Taiwan's citizens to reconsider any plans to travel to those areas in the coming weeks and if they do go, and to get in touch with Taiwan's liaison office in Thailand in case of emergency.
