DOH's Yaung departs on visit to Germany, Vatican

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Health Minister Yaung Chih-liang left for Europe late Thursday, at the head of a medical delegation, to explore developments relating to long-term care.

Yaung's delegation includes Cheng Shou-hsia, head of the Bureau of National Health Insurance, and Tai Kuei-ying, a senior DOH official in charge of a task force on long-term care.

The delegation will travel first to Germany for a familiarization tour of long-term care organizations and facilities in two German states, and to explore developments and prospects in that field, according to the Department of Health (DOH).

Yaung and his colleagues will later travel to Vatican City, where they will attend the 25th founding anniversary celebrations of the Pontifical Council for Health Care Workers, at the invitation of the Holy See, the DOH said.

They are expected to meet and talk with World Health Organization (WHO) officials, including Secretary-General Margaret Chan, and other health officials from the European Union, according to the DOH.
