The Presidential Office said a day earlier that Ma might add the Dominican Republic to the itinerary of his upcoming visit to Honduras, where he will attend the Jan. 27 inauguration of President-elect Porfirio Lobo Sosa. Ma explained that the main consideration involved in this plan is how to avoid causing addition trouble for the Haitian government, which is already very busy handling the aftermath of the earthquake. He stressed that Taiwan is very concerned about the situation in Haiti, one of Taiwan's diplomatic allies. “I will be reaching almost their (Haiti's) doorstep in this upcoming trip. It would be inappropriate if I did not go there to express my concern,” he said. The president said his charter plane will also carry more than 10 containers of medical and relief supplies for Haiti.
