According to the Principles for Cooperation on Improving Travel Security established between the two countries, they will work together to crack down on forged documents, share traveler information, promote the issuance of e-Passports and exchange information on terrorists, the MOFA said. The two sides will also improve the method for exchanging information on lost or stolen passports, continue cooperation on an airborne police project and enhance cooperation on airport security, the ministry said. These principles are requirements that Taiwan must meet before further negotiating with Washington for visa-free entry to the United States by Taiwanese citizens, the ministry added. To facilitate the cooperation, the two sides will first set up a working group that will be in charge of identifying the substantive areas of cooperation, the MOFA said. I hope the process will be completed soon. January 3, 2009 yyzrush@ Sorry my joy has been short-lived. I don't know who is telling the truth. No where on the U.S. travel or government website does it say that U.S. and Taiwan has signed an agreement. Till I see that I am not ready to believe that we are even close to getting into the visa waiver program. July 2, 2009 yyzrush@ This will be an illusive dream. The requiem has already been sung. USA has closed its Visa Waiver program and does not plan on extending it. Just like I said before......It is purely a figment of imagination that Taiwan will enjoy Visa Free Status to USA. |
