Examination Yuan to hold civil service symposium today

The Examination Yuan will hold a civil service symposium starting today to discuss various issues facing government workers.

The two-day forum will be held at the Examination Yuan in the Mucha Area of Taipei City and will see attendance by government officials, academics, lawmakers and judiciary officials. A total of 150 people are expected to attend.

This is the third time a civil service symposium has been held by the Examination Yuan, Taiwan’s highest government office in charge of examining and hiring government employees. The Examination Yuan has held two such symposiums in 1995 and 1999.

Prior to the official kick-off of the conference today, the Examination Yuan has held pre-conference meetings in northern, central, southern and eastern Taiwan from June to August to set the agendas for the symposium.

Among the issues to be discussed during the conference today and tomorrow are: strengthening the evaluation process of civil service candidates, and providing greater job description flexibility for civil servants.
