CIP unveils monument in Hualien for victims of 1877 Cepo' Incident
The Council of Indigenous Peoples (CIP, 原住民族委員會) and the Hualien County Government on Nov. 1 unveiled a newly erected monument at the Jingpu Elementary School (靜浦國民小學) in Fengbin Township (豐濱鄉) of Hualien.

A man, surnamed Lin, yesterday was sent to Hualien Tzu Chi Hospital (花蓮慈濟醫院) following an accident whereby the man was hit by a Tze-Chiang Limited Express (自強號) train while on duty as a maintenance cleaner.
 
Police and prosecutors said yesterday that the grandparents of a 9-year-old girl who died in a jet skiing accident off Hualien County as well as the man who rode the Jet Ski are suspected of manslaughter.

Hualien-Taitung electric railway ups traffic by 40%
The newly completed Hualien-Taitung electric railway system, along with its new time schedule, was officially launched yesterday with 136 Puyuma express trains joining the operation to boost rail-traffic volume by 40 percent, the Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) announced yesterday.
