Taiwan -- 2 new well-known brands implicated in oil scandal
Two food manufacturers — Homefood (禾家香食品) and Hua-ying Food (華盈食品有限公司) — in Changhua were found yesterday to have misused tainted oil from Bei-hai Oil (北海油脂) while producing frozen scallion pancakes for several brands including 7-Eleven convenience stores, RT-mart (大潤發), a-mart (愛買), Chen Hsiang Food (禎祥食品), Laurel Corp. (桂冠實業) and more.

The Water Resources Agency (WRA) yesterday said that in three days it will repair the damaged floodway in Tainan to a degree that will allow water to run through it, noting that it has also asked a professional civil engineering association to investigate the cause of the collapse.

Taiwan -- Heavy rain floods streets in Tainan, 'rain break' declared
Tainan City gave employees a day off yesterday morning due to flooding from torrential rain, but many citizens complained that the city government did not announce this decision early enough, causing them trouble during their commutes in the city.
