A household registration office in Chiayi has recently helped two Japanese people locate a Taiwanese woman whom they had lost contact with for 30 years with no other clue than the woman's name.
 
Maize maze
A 20-hectare corn maze is the highlight of the 2016 Yizhu Corn Culture Festival. The maze, located in Chiayi, opened for a trial run last weekend and will be open to the public for free from Dec. 10 to Feb. 12.
 
Student arrested over assault
A male student from Chia Nan University of Pharmacy & Science was arrested by the police five hours after his failed attempt to use unknown chemicals to cover the mouth and nose of a female student who was using the toilet at the school. The male student was later identified as a classmate of the victim.
 
World AIDS Day

Celebrating spoonbills

A man being transported by ambulance died after a police car allegedly slammed into the rescue vehicle in Chiayi County on Sunday, police said.

31 temple volunteers injured in highway tour bus crash in Chiayi
A tour bus carrying 40 passengers on Sunday hit the rear of an empty coach in Lantan Tunnel, Chiayi County on Freeway No. 3, injuring 31 passengers, Chiayi police said.
 
'Peanut Grandpa'
Chiayi Post Office inspector Lin Ching-fang, left, hands a NT$20,000 check to "Peanut Grandpa," an 81-year-old man in Chiayi City, Taiwan, on behalf of a resident in Yilan County. The Yilan resident donated the money to the senior citizen after discovering that he was caring for his ill wife alone.
 
An Air Force F-16 jet fighter encountered abnormal vibrations in one of its wheels as it was returning to Chiayi airport Wednesday morning, forcing the joint civil/military facility to close for about three hours.
