28,000 get wet in Sun Moon Lake Swim
The annual Sun Moon Lake Swim kicked off yesterday, drawing some 28,000 participants in this year's event. Competitors swam from one end of the lake to the other.

A man in Nantou County was indicted by prosecutors yesterday and may face life imprisonment or the death penalty if convicted of murder charges for allegedly driving into a motorcyclist while drunk and then turning back to run over the victim again in early May.

Operators in the well-known Lushan hot springs area in Nantou, central Taiwan, are to be relocated because of the increasing danger of landslides in the environmentally sensitive area, county government officials said Thursday.

Several landslides occurred yesterday in the central county of Nantou, on a provincial highway and the road around the Sun Moon Lake tourist area, but no casualties were reported.
