A woman who mistook her fever and skin rash as symptoms of a cold was found to have scrub typhus, an acute infectious disease, according to the Tzu-Chi Buddhist General Hospital's Talin branch in the southern county of Chiayi.

Taiwan -- Nanya Plastics plant shut down after fire
No deaths or injuries were reported in a fire at a plant operated by Nanya Plastics, a part of the Formosa Plastics Group, in Chiayi County yesterday, the latest in a string of negative incidents that have blemished the group's image as a responsible corporate leader.
Taiwan -- Nanya fire damage put at NT$150 mil.
Government agencies have dispatched a toxic disaster response team to a plant of Nanya Plastics Corp. engulfed by a fire in southwestern Chiayi County yesterday and will closely monitor the company's operations. Initial estimate put the fire damage at roughly NT$150 million as about 30 percent of production lines were destroyed.
A suspect has been arrested for selling counterfeit products online, intellectual property rights police in Chiayi, southern Taiwan, said yesterday.

Taiwan -- Typhoon Fanapi rips off roof of home in Chiayi County
The strong winds of Typhoon Fanapi ripped the roof off of a Chiayi County residence late Sunday night, scaring the exposed occupants, who were literally left without a roof over their heads.
