Siew to meet China's premier Thursday at Boao conference

BOAO, China--Former Taiwan Vice President Vincent Siew is expected to meet with China's premier Li Keqiang at the Boao Forum for Asia on Thursday.

Siew, who will attend the forum in his capacity as the honorary chairman of the Cross-straits Common Market Foundation, will arrive in Boao Wednesday to take part in the opening ceremony the following day.

The foundation will hold a news conference after the Siew-Li meeting, in which the two are expected to touch on issues related to Taiwan's efforts to join regional economic integration.

Siew, who served as vice president from 2008-2012, will be attending the conference for the eighth time.

Li will deliver a keynote speech at the opening ceremony on Thursday at the conference, whose theme this year is “Asia's New Future: Identifying New Growth Drivers.”

According to the agenda, in addition to Li, Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott and leaders of other governments will also speak at the annual meeting.
