TAIPEI--Officials from Taiwan and China met in Taiwan's outlying Kinmen County Thursday to discuss joint crime-fighting efforts.
Sun Shaobin, a senior officer from the anti-drug department of China's Public Security Ministry, led a delegation of local police officials from five provinces — Guangdong, Fujian, Hubei, Jiangsu and Jiangxi — who arrived in Kinmen Wednesday, the county government said.
They were joined by officials from the Investigation Bureau under Taiwan's Ministry of Justice, who are stationed in Kinmen.
Representatives from the two sides discussed how to further crack down on drug- and firearms-smuggling rings, the county government said.
Meeting with the delegation Thursday, Kinmen Magistrate Li Wo-shi praised cooperation between law enforcement across the Taiwan Strait as a positive development for relations between Taiwan and China.
Li suggested the two sides start working together to tackle corporate crimes that hurt rights of legitimate businesses.
The Chinese delegation departed Kinmen Friday.
