China promises to increase milkfish orders in TainanCNA TAIPEI--China has pledged to increase the area it will contract in Tainan next year to raise milkish, Tainan City milkfish aquaculture association chairman Wang Wen-chung said Saturday.
December 31, 2012, 12:12 am TWN Wang disclosed the pledge at a luncheon jointly held by the association and a food company he owns to celebrate the completion of the 2012 contract from China to supply 3.6 million catties, or 2.16 million kilograms, of milkfish. A total of 120 fish farms in Xuejia District, Tainan, which is known for its concentration of aquaculture farms, handled the order, and each farm earned income of NT$300,000 (US$10,330) from the contract, Wang said. “The contract farming will not just continue next year but expand in terms of scale,” he said, without saying if China had committed to the amount by which it will increase its milkfish order. In 2011, China contracted 100 Xuejia milkfish farms to raise 1.8 million kilograms of the fish for the Chinese market, according to Wang. He also revealed that China has agreed to open a milkfish floss factory in Xuejia. |
