Performers of allies kick off joint tour across island

TAIPEI--Arts groups from Taiwan's Central American and Caribbean diplomatic allies kicked off a joint tour across Taiwan yesterday, saying they were excited to work with Taiwanese performers and boost bilateral cultural exchanges.

Lester Godinez, director of the National Marimba Group from the Republic of Guatemala, said his 10-man group is thrilled to be performing folk songs with the Fulfillment String Quartet from Taichung.

“It did not take us much time to get familiar with each other's music style,” said Godinez, who is on his first trip to Taiwan.

The group and members of the quartet will jointly perform the Guatemalan traditional song “Quetzaltenango Memories” and the Taiwanese folk song “Diu Diu Dang” during performances in Taoyuan County, and Taichung and Kaohsiung between Oct. 19-28.
