Wu-Hu meeting sees major results: China spokesmanCNA March 29, 2012, 12:03 am TWN    In the March 22 meeting in Beijing, Wu Poh-hsiung, honorary chairman of Taiwan's ruling Kuomintang, and Chinese President Hu Jintao in his capacity as the head of Communist Party of China, agreed that both sides should strengthen political trust, reaffirmed their opposition to Taiwan independence and insisted on upholding the “1992 Consensus,” the spokesman said. The “1992 Consensus” refers to a tacit cross-strait understanding reached in 1992 that there is only one China, with each side free to interpret what that means. “Wu and Hu also agreed that the two sides of the Taiwan Strait are not in 'state-to state' relations,” Yang said during a press conference. “Both sides insist on 'one China,'” while agreeing to seek common ground and to put aside their differences, Yang said. Wu and Hu also think there have been major achievements in cross-strait relations over the past four years, which has resulted in the most peaceful and stable period in the Taiwan Strait in more than six decades, the spokesman said. Both sides think they should seize this widow of opportunity to enhance mutual trust, accumulate goodwill and deepen exchanges, Yang said. At the press conference, Yang was asked whether China agreed with Wu's description of the Taiwan-China situation as “one county, two areas.” In response, he said China has long maintained that as long as one identifies with the “one China” principle, then “all other questions could be discussed.” Yang also said that a development project off Fujian province is an economic matter — not an experimental project for the “one country, two systems” model. That is a model being applied in Hong Kong but is rejected by Taiwan. On Taiwan's call for the Pingtan development project to be discussed under the cross-strait economic cooperation framework agreement (ECFA), Yang said if that is Taiwan's view, it should be brought up for discussion in the Economic Cooperation Committee, an ad hoc body set up to deal with follow-up issues covered in the ECFA.

And nobody had a word to say, neither Hong Kong residents. The Rep. of China (on Taiwan) was founded since 1912, much older than the P. R. C. which was founded in 1949. Taiwan is not a colony like Hong Kong was. Taiwan is a self ruled regime with all requirements to be a nation: territories, people, government, armed forces, sovereignty. Taiwan is quite different from Hong Kong. In reality there are two Chinas: one is free democratic China, and the other authoritarian communist China. They are completely different. Both sides may have brotherhood, but they fought against each other, and they are separated independently. It's good to have dialogues and exchanges, in order to get better understanding and to amend scars of fighting. But trying to force Taiwan accepting reunification under authoritarian regime, NO WAY! I agree with you-NO WAY for reuinification. Another two NO WAY YOU MISSED----- 1- NO WAY for Independent Taiwan under Japanese imperialist military or imperialist Japanese government control. 2- NO WAY for those greens to implement Lee Teng-hui doctrine that green regime of Taiwan should be called Taiwankoku (Manshūkoku) and become a puppet state under the Japanese governing the Taiwanese...... Taiwan will always be Republic of China government. |
