China's youths to homestay in Taiwan, promote peaceMa commended the Club for its contributions in processing “homestay's” for foreign youths visiting Taiwan, a program that allows deeper and more intense cultural exchanges and understandings. If possible, the president suggested that the Club could establish a system so Mainland Chinese youths could also “homestay” when visiting Taiwan, pointing out that such experiences would serve as a powerful method in maintaining peace across the Taiwan Strait, and would clearly demonstrate Taiwan's soft power. Taking as an illustration the 250 million Mainland Chinese netizens' enthusiasm over watching live broadcast of Taiwan's Jan. 14 presidential election progress, Ma pointed out that the Chinese people's interest in Taiwan is increasing, and allowing Chinese youths to homestay at local Taiwanese families would definitely further influence the youths' perception of Taiwan. According to local media, the Rotary Club expressed affirmation for Ma's suggestion, saying that it would take the suggestion into consideration in future organization of homestays. | |||||||||||||
