Chinese negotiator visits FGS Buddhist monastery

TAIPEI--The deputy head of China's quasi-official agency in charge of relations with Taiwan continued a trip to southern Taiwan Sunday, where he met with a local Buddhist leader and visited various tourist attractions.

On the second day of his trip, Zheng Lizhong, deputy president of the Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits (ARATS), visited the Fo Guang Shan Monastery in Kaohsiung and met with its founder, Venerable Master Hsing Yun.

After the private meeting, Zheng told reporters that he hopes cross-strait exchanges in all areas can be as comprehensive as those in the field of religion.

Zheng added that he is in Taiwan to listen to opinions on issues between Taiwan and China, and said that since his arrival the previous day, he has felt the passion of the locals.
