Updated Monday, March 22, 2010 9:34 am TWN, The China Post news staff Su Chi to attend Boao Forum of Asia next monthHe will be the highest ex-government official of Ma Ying-jeou's administration attending the regional economic and business cooperation conference. Su confirmed at an interview with CNA that he will go to this year's BFA, a prestigious forum for political and business leaders in Asia, for the second time. Su said he will be participating in his capacity as an adviser of the Cross-Straits Common Market Foundation (CSCMF). He had attended the meeting last year with the former president of the Control Yuan, Fredrick Chien. Chien will also attend BFA this year as the senior adviser of CSCMF. There were reports that it was President Ma who is sending them there to talk to the leaders in China and that they will exchange views about Taiwan's position with Xi Jin-ping, China's vice president during their stay. Su said the speculations are unnecessary, as BFA is mainly about business instead of politics. He said Ma had not assigned him any special mission and he will not be an official speaker at the meeting. Also, as far as he knows, Chien was not given any special assignments as well, he said. The government declined to comment on Su's participation at the meeting, as Su no longer works in the government. Subscribe to The China Post and save 25%. Click here |
