3 cross-strait agreements to take effect today

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The three agreements Taiwan signed with China last December during the fourth round of formal talks between the two countries' top negotiators will take effect starting March 21, Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF) Deputy Secretary-General Ma Shaw-chang said.

Ma said the three agreements are the Agreement on Cooperation in Inspection and Quarantine of Agricultural Products, the Agreement on Cooperation in Respect of Standards, Metrology, Inspection and Accreditation and the Agreement on Cooperation in Fishing Crew Affairs.

They were signed during talks between Chiang Pin-kung, chairman of Taiwan's SEF, and Chen Yunlin, president of mainland China's Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Strait (ARATS), in Taichung on Dec. 22.
