The spokesman called for President Ma Ying-jeou to explain the administration's stance on the legislative cross-strait task force issue when he briefs the public on the progress of the ECFA talks Tuesday. Tsai quoted the results of a poll conducted by the DPP earlier this month as showing that 68.2 percent of the people who answered the poll do not think the legislature is able to effectively supervise the administration's cross-strait policies and only 20.9 percent of the respondents said the legislature is able to do so. "Even a high of 58 percent of the respondents who are largely considered supporters of the ruling Kuomintang do not think the legislature has any teeth as far as the government's cross-strait policies are concerned," he said. Tsai continued that 52.2 percent of the respondents oppose Taiwan's plan to recognize Chinese academic credentials, while 65.2 percent are against a plan to recognize professional licenses issued in China. According to Tsai, the DPP conducted the poll Feb. 3-4. A total of 978 valid samples were collected in the survey, which had a confidence level of 95 percent and a margin of error of plus or minus 3.2 percentage points, Tsai said.
