Updated Monday, February 8, 2010 9:55 am TWN, CNA Taiwan Beer manufacturing plant to be set up in ChinaThe plan was unveiled after TTLC set up branch offices in Beijing and Shanghai and was named as a partner in the 16th Guangzhou Asian Games last November. Huaian, an important city in northern Jiangsu famous for its wine production, was chosen by TTLC as its beer production base because of the high quality of its artesian water. In addition to TTLC, Japan's Suntory International Corp. has also selected Hauian as a manufacturing location, according to Gao. Earlier this year, TTLC announced plans to select an exclusive agent among five Chinese cities and to appoint a contract manufacturer to produce and package its Taiwan Beer products in China. The company forecast that sales of Taiwan Beer this year will grow 20 times to reach NT$2 billion, according to Gao. The Huaian city government has also been maintaining contacts with Taiwan's agricultural industry associations in the hope of attracting investment, Gao said. To address increasing demand for freight transport following an increase in investment in the city, an airport is under construction and is scheduled to open in the first quarter of this year, Gao noted. The airport will initially offer flights to the major Chinese cities of Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen and Guangzhou and will later seek to serve direct charter flights across the Taiwan Strait.
