3rd round of cross-strait talks to be in NanjingMAC Vice Chairman Liu Te-shun said the two sides have both expressed hope that the talks will take place in a city other than the Chinese capital of Beijing. He made the remarks at a press conference on the most recent visit to Shanghai by Kao Koong-lian, vice chairman and secretary-general of the quasi-official Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF), to arrange for the third meeting since last June between SEF Chairman P.K. Chiang and his Chinese counterpart, Chen Yunlin, president of the Beijing-based Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits (ARATS). Kao, accompanied by his deputy Kao Wen-cheng, went to Shanghai Wednesday and returned the following day. Liu said Kao was tasked with discussing procedural problems with ARATS officials and to gain more understanding of the progress of talks between the two intermediary bodies in terms of technical issues. Judging by the progress to date, the two bodies still need to communicate with each other on certain technical problems, including the exact date of the high-profile Chiang-Chen meeting . | |||||||||||||
