Updated Wednesday, March 18, 2009 9:45 am TWN, The China Post news staff Amway visitors thrilled by natural beauty of TaiwanAfter spending a day and night in Taipei on Monday, the group went back on board the luxury liner Ocean Mystery to reach Hualien Harbor yesterday morning. Many of the Chinese visitors said the trip fulfilled their long-cherished dreams of visiting Taiwan because the island was a major place they had yet to visit after traveling to other famous places in the world. Loaded with cash and plastic money, the tourists continued their spending spree and purchased an estimated NT$1.3 million worth of products and souvenirs during the six-hour stay in Hualien. The shopping lists were different from the procurements of luxury items like jewelry, expensive watches, handbags with brand names, and notebook PCs at Taipei department stores a day earlier. Their new purchases in Hualien included Taiwan jade stones, marble stone carvings and sculptures, mini pocket knives, native food items like glutinous rice cakes, and woven textile products made by aboriginal residents. Some claimed they had no intention of refraining from their shopping spree, saying they will help spur business activities of Taiwan with no cap on spending budget. A woman from Wuxi of Jiangsu Province said she was moved by the beauty of the internationally famous Taroko Gorge. An outstanding sales representative from Shanghai said his two-day stay so far inspired him to work out plans to come back. His companions said they have all gained an absolutely excellent impression of the culinary and snacks as well as the warmth of Taiwan people and the cheerful services of the tour guides. The group on the corporate incentive cruise is scheduled to reach Taichung City today. Mayor Jason Hu said the visitors will be met with a splendid welcoming ceremony at Taichung Harbor. A shopping quarter will be set up to exhibit speciality food and other items from around Taiwan to allow them to purchase the best locally produced goods at the lowest prices, Hu said. The tourists will also visit the Jihyuehtan (Sun Moon Lake) and Zhongtai Chanshi (Central Taiwan Zen Temple) before winding up their three-day cruise and going home from Taichung Harbor on the west coast of central Taiwan. Other Amway visitors would come in eight batches for similar trips aboard the Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruiser and Costa Cruiser. Subscribe to The China Post and save 25%.
