Three more Chinese airlines to set up offices in TaiwanThe Civil Aeronautics Administration has approved applications by Shanghai Airlines, Air China and China Southern, the official said, adding that the latter company has taken office space near the Taipei Songshan Airport. The other Chinese carrier, China Eastern, opened an office near the airport soon after the weekend direct cross-Taiwan Strait charter flight services began in July, while various Taiwanese carriers have also opened offices in China, the official said. These offices cannot sell tickets but they can be upgraded into full branch offices in the future to cope with an expected wider range of aviation services, the official went on. The existing weekend direct charter flights will be expanded to a daily service Dec. 15 as the result of an agreement signed between Taiwan and China Nov. 4. The expansion will increase the 36 direct flights currently operated between Taiwan and China Friday to Monday to 108 per week, available every day. The number of destinations in China will also be increased from the current five to 21, and both passenger and cargo charter flights will be available, the official went on, adding that even further expansion in services is possible in the coming year. | |||||||||||||
