A group member said they opted to use the Kinmen-Xiamen mini links partly because they could proceed to Taiwan from Kinmen and partly because the trip costs less compared to direct cross-Taiwan Strait charter flights that are currently available only on weekends. The Zhejiang tourists are slated to travel to Taiwan proper Thursday and return to Kinmen Dec. 2, when they will sail back to Xiamen via the mini link route. China announced Sept. 7 an expansion of its tourism links with Taiwan, under which residents from 13 mainland China provinces and cities will be allowed to visit Taiwan, including Kinmen Island, for sightseeing purposes. Zhejiang was listed among the 13 locations that were selected in line with the terms of two historical pacts on tourism and the establishment of non-stop weekend charter flights inked by Taiwan and China in their landmark talks in June in Beijing.
