Tibetans in Taiwan pray for victims

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The Tibet Religious Foundation of the H.H. Dalai Lama, the Taiwan Tibet Exchange Foundation and Tibetan Welfare Association in Taiwan held a ceremony yesterday to comfort the spirits of the victims who lost their lives in the Myanmar cyclone and Sichuan earthquake.

The groups also wished to raise funds for people who are still struggling to live in the disaster-stricken areas.

The event came after efforts by the Tibetan government in exile and Tibetan temples around the world to comfort and pray for those who either lost lives or lost their family in a spate of natural disasters, including the deadly cyclone in Myanmar which claimed more than 100,000 lives, and the devastating earthquake in China’s Sichuan Province.

Wong Shih-jie, deputy secretary-general of Taiwan Tibet Exchange Foundation, said during the ceremony, “No matter what the Chinese government has done to the Tibetan people, and no matter what the Myanmar military government has done to the Myanmar people, we just want to have the reconstruction quickly done, the injured people recovered, and the spirit of the dead consoled through our prayer.”
