Updated Monday, July 28, 2008 0:00 am TWN, CNA Taipei County, Nanjing sign partnership MOUThe MOU was signed by Taipei Magistrate Chou Hsi-wei and Nanjing Mayor Jiang Hongkun at a ceremony that took place at the Nanjing City Hall, with about 30 officials from the two sides in attendance. According to the MOU, Taipei County and Nanjing City will swap visits by officials from the two sides annually, mainly for talks on plans aimed at bolstering bilateral exchanges and cooperation. The MOU allows for closer exchanges and cooperation between the two sides in the fields of business, trade, high-technology manufacturing, tourism, education, culture and sports. The MOU also calls for closer investment cooperation between the two cities. The Mainland Affairs Office under the Taipei County government and the Taiwan Affairs Office under the Nanjing city government will be two “windows” in charge of exchanges between the two cities in the future, according to the MOU. Nanjing City decided to give 3,000 willow seedlings and 100 plum seedlings to Taipei County as a token of friendship. Meanwhile, Chou and members of his delegation departed Nanjing for Taiwan yesterday afternoon, two days earlier than originally scheduled due Typhoon Fung-Wong approaching Taiwan. Chou and his 10-member entourage, including Hung Meng-chi, secretary-general of the Taipei county government; Chin Hui-chu, director of the Tourism Bureau of the Taipei county government; and Lee Ping, director of the Bureau of Cultural Affairs of the Taipei county government, arrived in Nanjing July 25 for what was originally scheduled as a five-day visit.
