Asia's leading tech fair, Computex, comes to close

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Computex Taipei 2016, Asia's leading information and communication technology fair, closed yesterday after hosting a reported 40,969 international ICT professionals, up 4.7 percent from last year.

Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), a co-organizer, announced that Computex hosted 1,602 local and international exhibitors who ran 5,009 booths.

The five-day fair opened on May 31 and brought together global technology companies such as ABB, Acer, Audi, BenQ, Cooler Master, MSI, Samsung, Siemens and Mercedes-Benz.

TAITRA said it arranged 822 one-on-one procurement meetings to directly link 188 buyers with exhibitors, promoting superior ICT products to the world and facilitating interactions between tech professionals.

This year's Computex featured four main themes: Internet of Things (IoT) applications; business solutions; innovations and startups; and gaming.

At the exhibition, U.S. chip giant Intel announced that it would collaborate with Taiwan's Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. to develop various network infrastructure technologies.

For e-sports and gaming, Computex collaborated with HWBOT, the world's leading platform for competitive overclocking, to hold the HWBOT World Tour 2016.

The Light Gallery of the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, Hall 1 was redesigned into an overclocking arena for the unprecedented competition, where overclocking professionals from around the world pushed the boundaries of hardware.

"Great devices by gaming manufacturers in Taiwan and the reputation of Computex attracted many overclocking masters to this debut event in Taiwan," said Pieter Jan-Plaisier, director of HWBOT Taiwan.

At the closing press conference, TAITRA Executive Vice President Walter Yeh said that the 2017 Computex, slated for May 30 to June 3, would focus on innovative technologies such as artificial intelligence, virtual reality and smart manufacturing.

Established in 1981, Computex is the leading global ICT show with a complete supply chain and IoT ecosystems.

Co-organized by TAITRA, the Taipei Computer Association (TCA), Computex covers the whole spectrum of ICT from upstream components-manufacturing all the way to system assembly and IoT applications.
