HTC not settling patent dispute: chairwomanCNA TAIPEI -- Cher Wang, chairwoman of Taiwan based HTC Corp., said yesterday that her company is currently not in any talks with Apple Inc. to settle a patent lawsuit.
August 29, 2012, 11:56 am TWN “We really are not,” she said on the sidelines of a local event when answering a reporter's question about the possibility of settling the lawsuit. Wang also said Samsung Electronics Co.'s loss is not a setback for the Android camp because “every company has good innovations.” A U.S. jury ruled Aug. 24 that Samsung, the world's largest maker of phones running Google Inc.'s Android system, had infringed on six of the seven contested patents by Apple, including both utility and design patents. Two of the patents Apple won against Samsung in the verdict are also included in Apple's second patent infringement lawsuit filed with the United States International Trade Commission (USITC) against HTC. An initial ruling on the Apple-HTC case is scheduled for Nov. 7.
