Chunghwa, partner to work on solutions to videoconferencing

Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan's leading operator, announced yesterday that it is preparing to launch a videoconferencing solution in collaboration with Arkadin, a conference call solutions provider.

Videoconferencing will be an extension of the two firms' collaboration in developing a conference call solution, which was announced in March.

Arkadin has 50 service points across 29 nations. With its partnership with Arkadin, Chunghwa was able to provide Internet-based, high-quality conference call service to clients, it said.

In July, Arkadin teamed up with NTT BizLink, a part of Japan's NTT Communications Group, to roll out videoconferencing solutions.

Chunghwa will also work with Arkadin on videoconferencing, but the exact date of the service launch has yet to be determined, it said.

Chunghwa Telecom has been providing conference call solutions since 2001 and has drawn over 1,000 enterprise customers.

During the financial meltdown in 2008, many firms saved cost by using conference calls to conduct meetings. According to Chunghwa, its conference call business has been enjoying steady growth each year.

The conference call solution launched by Chunghwa and Arkadin allows participants to chat over the phone and exchange information and documents via the Internet, adding ease and convenience to conference calls.

The solution is also capable of accommodating hundreds of participants and is ideal for shareholders' meetings and investors' meetings held by companies, Chunghwa said.
