Compass Taichung Int'l Food & Music Festival is back!

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The Calligraphy Greenway (草悟道), a 3.6-kilomter stretch of greenbelt across the city of Taichung, will be the new site of the Compass Taichung International Food & Music Festival (康百視台中國際美食音樂節), which runs from Oct. 29-30.

As one of central Taiwan's largest and longest-running annual international events, the 13th installment of the festival is expected to attract 15,000 to 20,00 participants over the two-day period. Sponsors of this year's event include Taiwan Beer (台灣啤酒), World Gym (世界健身俱樂部), Corning Taiwan (康寧), Taichung City Government Information Bureau (台中市政府新聞局), Sunny FM89.1 (太陽廣播電台) and ICRT FM100.1 (台北國際社區廣播電台).

A magnet for both international and Taiwanese cuisine and boutiques, the Compass Festival will feature hundreds of dining options, as well as nightlife, shopping and arts and crafts from more than 60 booths hosted by the finest restaurants, pubs and shops in and around Greater Taichung.

Just as it has done in the past, the event will provide visitors a chance to sample the best Taichung has to offer, with vendors like Stay In Cafe, Chef Tony's, A Sensory Travel Experience (稻旅人), Oldies Frank's Hotdogs (微笑熱狗), Indian Fast Food and Three Stars Nepal Shop (三星尼泊爾手工藝品店), and many more.

And that's not all. While enjoying a captivating array of foods and drinks, this experience will be accompanied by live music performances, featuring more than 16 independent bands and artists from central Taiwan, with styles ranging from acoustic and hip-hop to rock and reggae.

They include Matthew Gawdan, So-Sos, Shapemaster, Poise, C Chord, Moss, DaMET@4 (大MET4), Point 22, Pat Reid, PhiloSopha, Dirty Skies, Ho Da La, Talking Without Sense, San Jiao Mao (三腳貓樂團), DARK, Dread Rider and The Liquidators.

To top it off, various local non-profit organizations, charities and institutions will also be at the event for visitors to learn more about them and to lend support, such as the International Women's Association of Taichung (台中國際婦女協會), Heart Of Taiwan Animal Care (台灣之心愛護動物協會), Taichung Hash House Harriers(台中捷兔慢跑活動), the American School in Taichung (台中美國學校) and Kuang Tien General Hospital (光田綜合醫院), to name a few.

"This year's festival continues Compass Magazine's long history and tradition of promoting the best of Greater Taichung, from its many restaurants to live music, culture and community organizations. I hope that residents, visitors from other parts of Taiwan and foreign tourists will all stop by to enjoy and experience all of this, and show their support for Taichung," said Douglas Habecker, Compass Magazine (康百視雜誌) Co-Publisher. ■
