Taiwanese bands set for Japanese summer festival

TAIPEI -- Three Taiwanese bands, including Mayday, will take to the stage at this year's Summer Sonic music festival in Japan in August.

The five-man band will perform in Osaka and Tokyo — the two venues of the festival

— on Aug. 16 and 17, respectively.

Taiwanese metal band ChthoniC and pop-rock band Magic Power are also scheduled to perform at the festival, taking the stage in Tokyo on Aug. 16, after which ChthoniC will head to Osaka for a show the following day.

It is the second time that Mayday is taking part in the festival, after their first performance in 2012. ChthoniC and Magic Power, meanwhile, are making their first appearances at the music event.

“Although Japanese fans have become very familiar with ChthoniC, we will do our best to surprise them,” said Doris Yeh, the band's bassist.

Summer Sonic is an annual rock festival in Japan that features Japanese and international musicians and attracts around 200,000 people each year.
