Johansson, Taipei 101 to star in upcoming Luc Besson movie

TAIPEI--The Taipei 101 skyscraper will appear in French director Luc Besson's new movie “Lucy,” starring American actress Scarlett Johansson.

Besson's team reportedly arrived in Taipei yesterday to shoot scenes for the film.

The crew will take aerial shots of the skyscraper, but no indoor scenes will be filmed, according to the building's owner, the Taipei Financial Center Co.

Johansson will come to Taiwan and have scenes at Taipei 101, said company spokesman Michael Liu, but it was unclear when she would arrive and what the nature of the scenes will be.

The action movie is reportedly about a woman, played by Johansson, working in Taiwan as a drug mule, who gains supernatural ability and becomes a fighting machine.

Some of the filming for the movie could take place near the Regent Taipei next week, according to local news station TVBS, citing a Taipei Film Commission announcement that streets around the hotel will be blocked Oct. 21-24.

According to TVBS, the commission declined to confirm that the announcement was related to “Lucy” but said overseas filming requests have increased since the success of Oscar winner Ang Lee's movie “Life of Pi,” which was shot in Taiwan.

Johansson, twice named the sexiest woman alive by Esquire Magazine, has appeared in such blockbusters as “Iron Man 2” and “The Avengers.”

Besson is best known for his 1997 movie “The Fifth Element.” His latest works include “The Lady” and the “Taken” series.
