Asia-Pacific Culture Day to be held in capital city

TAIPEI -- A two-day event aimed at promoting cultural and arts exchanges between Taiwan and other Asia-Pacific countries will kick off later this week in Taipei, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Starting Sept. 28, the Asia-Pacific Culture Day — organized by the ministry — will offer a variety of drama, musical and dance performances from several participating countries, along with a display of different foods from throughout the region, it said.

A Japanese group will give a drumming show while other performances will feature folk culture and traditional dances from countries such as Malaysia, Tuvalu, Vietnam and the Philippines, according to information available on the event's website.

A variety of handicrafts and artworks will also be on display at the event, which is to be held at the Huashan 1914 Creative Park, the ministry said.

Participating countries include Brunei, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kiribati, Malaysia, Nauru, New Zealand, Palau, South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Tuvalu, Vietnam, the Marshall Islands, the Philippines and the Solomon Islands, according to the ministry.

The event is an expanded version of a similar one held by the ministry last year to increase cultural and arts exchanges with other Asian countries.

Last year's event featured a series of musical and dance performances from Asian countries, as well as an exhibition introducing different cultures and foods from throughout the region.
