'Life of Pi' sales very strong in international box officesCNA LOS ANGELES--Oscar-winning director Ang Lee's “Life of Pi” defeated other Hollywood blockbusters in international box office results last weekend, according to latest data released by film distributors.
January 8, 2013, 12:01 am TWN The 3D shipwreck epic, nearly 80 percent of which was shot in Taiwan, raked in US$60 million in overseas box office receipts last weekend, well over revenues grossed by other smashes like “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” and “Jack Reacher,” the data showed. “Life of Pi,” a magical realism adaptation of Canadian novelist Yann Martel's 2002 Man Booker Prize-winning novel of the same name, was premiered in many more countries, including Ukraine, Uruguay, Chile, Bolivia and South Korea, last week. It emerged as the highest-grossing film of the week in all those countries except for South Korea, where it was placed second in box office rankings.
