Taiwan-American dancer receives Martha Hill awardCNA NEW YORK -- H.T. Chen, an American dancer who was raised in Taiwan, and his wife Dian Dong received the 2012 Mid-Career Award from the Martha Hill Dance Fund Wednesday for contributing to dance education and helping to nurture the talent of emerging artists.
November 23, 2012, 12:06 am TWN Chen, who attended Taiwan's Chinese Culture University and later got his master's degree in dance education from New York University, was honored for his years of contribution to the city's dance community and for offering quality education programs dating back to 1980. Shanghai-born Chen set up a dance center in a predominantly Chinese area of New York City in 1980, providing lessons in ballet, modern dance, martial arts and piano classes throughout the year. In 1988, Chen created the first theater in Chinatown, the Mulberry Street Theater, which offers a platform for budding artists to showcase their creations and provides funding to Asian talents.
