Big names invited to unveil grand wall sculpture

Vice President Wu Den-yih, ex-Vice President Annette Lu and Legislative Speaker Wang Jin-pyng yesterday jointly unveiled a grand stone-sculptured nine-dragon wall in the Bagua complex of the I Ching University in Nantou County.

More than 100 other politicians of both the ruling and opposition parties also attended the unveiling ceremony, including former Examination Yuan President Yao Chia-wen, former Education Minister Wu Ching-chi, former Transportation and Communications Minister Lin Ling-san, Nantou County Magistrate Lee Chai Ching, and many lawmakers.

President Ma Ying-jeou also sent a congratulatory message to Master Hunyuan, the mastermind of the project. The note was read immediately after the 53.5-meter-long and 10-meter-high wall was unveiled.

Speaking at the ceremony, Wu called for the public and private sectors to join forces to aid the future development of Taiwan, and wished the nation and all nationals great prosperity and harmony.

For her part, former Vice President Annette Liu said that the Executive Yuan and Legislative Yuan should be relocated from Taipei to Central or Southern Taiwan, so as to balance the urban development on the island. Lu said a team of experts should be set up to carry out evaluations concerning which city is suitable for housing the Cabinet and the Legislative Yuan.

In response, Speaker Wang said he would like to consider Lu's relocation proposal as long as it is deemed feasible by experts and acceptable to the public. But he said it would not be so easy to carry out the relocation proposal if security and administration efficiency are taken into consideration.

Master Hunyuan said at the ceremony that the nine-dragon wall is an artistic work boasting religious, humane and artistic values. He said he hoped that the inauguration of the wall can serve to remove all ill fortunes from mankind and bring peace to the world.

The master, a former national policy advisor to ex-President Chen Shui-bian, has been noted for promoting the application of the principles of the I Ching (易經, also known as "Book of Changes") to the construction of houses and buildings.

The "Book of Changes "is one of the most important books in Chinese and world literature. Its origin dates to mythical antiquity, and it has occupied the attention of the most eminent scholars of China down to the present day. The book is one of the oldest of the Chinese classic texts.

The book is a symbol system used to identify order within random events. The text describes an ancient system of cosmology and philosophy that is intrinsic to ancient Chinese cultural beliefs. The cosmology centers on the ideas of the dynamic balance of opposites, the evolution of events as a process and acceptance of the inevitable.
