Luxury US cruise ship to dock in Keelung in August

TAIPEI -- A U.S.-based luxury cruise line will include the northern Taiwanese port city of Keelung on its Asian itinerary in late August when one of its large liners, that can accommodate 3,800 passengers, will dock there, the operator said.

Lin Kai-ti, chairman of Royal Caribbean International's Taiwan branch, said the cruise line has sent its "Voyager of the Seas" — a 140,000-ton liner previously based in the Caribbean — to Asia this year.

He said the ship is the largest cruise liner ever to operate in Asia. The ship has already been to Singapore in May and will travel to Keelung on three separate cruises from late August to September, he said.

In addition to Keelung, the liner will take travelers to China's Shanghai and Tianjin, Japan's Fukuoka, and Jeju Island in South Korea, he added.
