TAIPEI--A short fantasy film titled "Her Dream Lovers," produced by a group of four students from National Chengchi University, has been nominated for the Short Film category of the prestigious Cannes Film Festival.
The film revolves around a woman in her thirties who comes across a bottle of mysterious pills that have a magical function.
If she puts a picture of any man into a blender, along with the pills, and blends them together, she will be able to date this man in her dreams.
The spell works, and she is able to meet her dream man, albeit only in her dreams. However, after one of their dates, she realizes that she has fallen for him.
The final scene shows the woman and her dream man waking up together, creating the dilemma of whether it was a dream or reality.
The life of a high school teacher who taught Yang Jie — who directed the film — is where the idea for the film originated. The students wanted to create something that could help women like this high school teacher fulfill their romantic notions and fantasies.
The film took nearly six months to produce, as the students had to find time outside their own studies to write the script, film and produce the work.
Upon learning that their film had been nominated for the Short Film category of this year's Cannes Film Festival, Yang found it impossible to believe and thought there must have been a mistake.
She only started to believe it when officials verified her email address and her identity. Cannes, she said, is not only an opportunity to have the film screened in a global public setting but also for the filmmakers to converse with and learn from directors from around the world.
