TAIPEI -- The public is invited to enjoy various free activities at an outdoor festival highlighting African culture this weekend in Taipei, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Saturday. The two-day festival, featuring dancing, music and handicrafts, is being held to mark Africa Day, which is celebrated annually on May 25 to commemorate the independence of various African countries since 1963, according to a statement released by the ministry.
“Come to the festival,” Foreign Minister Timothy Yang said at the opening of the event. “You don't have to fly to Africa to experience the richness of its culture.”
Yang, who was posted to Lesotho early in his diplomatic career, said that African culture is full of vitality and creativity worth learning about.
To promote Africa in Taiwan, Yang said the ministry holds annual events to raise the public's interest toward Africa and its diverse cultures.
