Hong Kong oldies arrive for March 13 performance

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- One of the most popular teen idol pop bands in Hong Kong in the 1970s, the Wynners, arrived in Taipei yesterday to stage a March 13 reunion performance at the Taipei Arena.

Members of the group, including renowned movie stars Alan Tam and Kenny Bee, were greeted by a large crowd of fans at the airport. Since the group went their separate ways in 1978 to pursue their careers, Tam and Bee have become successful in television and on the big screen.

Describing themselves as “super seniors” in pop circles, vocals and keyboard players Tam and Bee, along with guitarists Bennett Peng and Danny Yih, and drummer Anthony Chan, announced in 2006 that they would give a reunion performance in 2007, 34 years after the band was assembled and 29 years after it was disbanded, followed by other regular reunions. Popular young local rock band Mayday will join the Wynners at the performance.
