Updated Saturday, December 5, 2009 11:17 am TWN, CNA Hakka TV wins 2 prizes at Asia TV AwardsEntering the competition for the first time to compete with programs of many world renowned television networks such as Discovery and National Geographic Channel Asia, Hakka TV earned nominations in four categories and won awards for Best Drama Series and Best Single Drama, respectively. The Best Drama Series award was given to Hakka TV's “1895 in Formosa, “ which depicts an epic love story about the Hakka people's fight against Japanese occupation that year and recounts the Hakka militia's resistance against Japanese troops. Hakka TV Vice Director Tang Sheng-jung and Wen Sheng-hao, the lead actor in 1895 in Formosa, accepted the award on behalf of the television station and the series' other actors. The Best Single Drama award went to Hakka TV's “Love in the Season of Osmanthus, “ a black comedy in which three unsuccessful middle-age men try to rob a bank security van. Hakka TV Director Hsu Chin-yun said the station spends considerable effort on the cast, plot and production of good-quality dramas, which serve as the best tool to promote Hakka culture because drama is the closest thing to people's lives. “I'm very gratified that our hard work has been well received by everybody. We will continue to produce more high quality programs, “ said Hsu. Also nominated for the ATA's most prestigious “Cable and Satellite Channel of the Year” award, Hakka TV lost in the category to Discovery Channel. Public Television Service Foundation, another Taiwanese TV channel, went home empty-handed after garnering nominations in five categories: Best Documentary Programme, Best Natural History or Wildlife Programme or Documentary-Drama,Best Single Drama or Telemovie Programme, Best Reality Programme, and Best Achievement in HD. Other winners at the awards ceremony included Anjali Rao, host of CNN International's “Talk Asia.” Rao was named the Best Current Affairs Presenter for her interview with Taiwan President Ma Ying-jeou. The ATA is the Asian television industry's most significant and celebrated event, recognizing excellence in programming, production and performance.This year, it attracted more than 1,000 entries from 13 countries and regions in Asia.
