University team begins canoe tour around Taiwan

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- A college canoe team yesterday launched its one-and-half-month, 1006-kilometer relay expedition along the entire coastline of Taiwan, reported local media.

More than 30 students from the National Taiwan Ocean University (NTOU) will take turns paddling around the island in three double-seat canoes, said the report.

The expedition began yesterday morning from Dawulun Beach in Keelung as the students traveled down the west coast.

The students will stop at fishing ports along the way to experience local culture, continued the report.

They will also stop to share their experiences from the expedition with other university students in Kaohsiung and Hualien and some local marine recreation associations.

Another group is following the expedition to document the journey, including the collaboration among the canoe team members, the scenery along the coastline, and the environmental challenges faced in different regions, added the report.
