CTBC Financial Holding Co. earns 4 ISO certificates for green practices

The U.K.'s national standards body has awarded four ISO certificates to Taipei-headquartered CTBC Financial Holding Co., recognizing the group's efforts in environmental protection and energy saving.

At an event in Taipei, British Standards Institution Managing Director Peter Pu (蒲樹盛) awarded four certificates to CTBC Financial Holding's Chief Administration Officer Roger Kao (高人傑), who received them on behalf of the group.

Pu said that CTBC Financial Holding was the first in Taiwan's finance industry to publish a dedicated corporate social responsibility (CSR) report with third-party accreditation.

Over the years, the group has expanded the scope of its energy management certification as part of its commitment to being a green financial institution, he said.

In a process that took three months, CTBC Bank's 151 branches all earned British Standards Institution's ISO 50001 Energy Management certification, ISO 14001 Environment Management certification and ISO 14064-1 Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reporting certification.

In addition, CTBC's subsidiary Taiwan Life Insurance Co.'s headquarters and Taichung branch office, two regional centers and 19 other centers all achieved ISO 14064-1 Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reporting certification this year.

In a statement, CTBC Financial Holding said it had long been committed to sustainable environmental development and had actively implemented its policy of energy saving and carbon reduction.

For four years, CTBC Financial Holding's CSR report has adhered to the BSI's G4 International Reporting Guidelines as part of its effort to harmonize itself with international standards.

CTBC Financial Holding is committed to "Green Policy, Green Future" and in 2016 was chosen for inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) Emerging Markets Index and the Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI) Global Sustainability Indexes. In 2016, CTBC Financial Holding was granted Leadership A- recognition from the CDP, the best results in Taiwan's financial industry, the statement said.
