Wetskills Taiwan '16 comes to end

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Wetskills Taiwan 2016, a two-week event challenging participating students and professionals to come up with innovative solutions to water-related problems, has concluded.

The event, jointly organized by the Netherlands-based Wetskills Foundation and Taiwan's Water Resources Agency (WRA), ran from July 10 to July 23.

A total of 36 participants from Taiwan and the Netherlands were divided into six teams, each of which was given a specific task, such as developing a cultivation method that could make sustainable use of water to ease food shortages, or studying the feasibility of building floating houses in Taiwan, according to the organizers.

The six teams presented their solutions at a ceremony on the final day of the event at the Taipei Expo Park on July 23, and one of them was selected by the judges as the most innovative, the organizers said.

Several prizes were given to the participants at the ceremony, presided over by Guy Alexander Wittich, representative of the Netherlands Trade and Investment Office, WRA Director Wang Rui-de and others.

WRA has been holding annual summer camps to raise awareness of conserving water resources since 2010, and this year it decided to work with the Dutch foundation to jointly organize the summer camp.
