Firm to check HSR switches following delays

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- An official at the Bureau of High Speed Rail (BHSR) made a public apology yesterday over the consecutive disruption of high-speed rail service. A top executive of Taiwan High Speed Rail Corp. (THSRC) vowed to get to the bottom of the technical glitch caused by malfunctions of split switches.

Director Chu Hsu of the BHSR under the Ministry of Transportation and Communications made the apology for failing to do a good job for the two successive technical glitches in the past two days.

Chairman Ou Chin-der of THSRC said his company has asked the Siemens Group, which supplies and helps maintain the electric engineering system of the north-south rail system, to conduct a thorough examination and root out the problem.

Transport service for the section between Taipei City and Banqiao City in Taipei County was closed for 68 minutes Thursday afternoon. The service was resumed after a split switch was replaced.

But the same problem took place at another set of the switches on Friday.
