Updated Saturday, June 6, 2009 9:46 am TWN, The China Post news staff School kids learn about energy saving with SiemensAn interesting short film that aimed to help school kids understand the important concepts of energy saving and environmental protection started the event at Ching-tong Elementary School. The students were later spilt up into small groups, each with a Siemens employee volunteer as their team leader, to operate the Discovery Box activities including the solar car operation and electric circuit experiments. Officials from the company said the Discovery Boxes were a gift to the school as a teaching prop. A solar car racing competition followed which teachers said caused a lot of excitement. The mission was to also introduce some energy saving tips to the students that can be done on a daily basis, such as turning off lights and taking mass transportation, officials added. Similar events had been held in May at the Maolin Elementary School in Kaohsiung and Ching-ai Elementary School in Nantou County. More than 30 employee volunteers from the company have together conducted the Siemens Discovery Boxes for the three remote elementary schools. Officials said the science education of our next generation is the crucial factor determining whether energy saving and environmental protection could be concretely realized.
