Four honor guards pass out at National Day celebration

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Four honor guards collapsed while on duty at the Double Tenth National Day celebration yesterday.

That did not mar the celebration, however.

It wasn’t hot in the morning. The temperature was a little over 30 degrees Celcius at the President Plaza, where the National Day celebration took place.

But the four guards passed out and were taken to an ambulance. Doctors gave them “treatment,” but not diagnosis.

The guards might not have suffered sun stroke, because it wasn’t really hot.

One possible reason was fatigue. Honor guards had to get up very early in the morning to remain on duty for close to six hours.

At any rate, they were given enough rest to fully recover.

Three girl students who performed a folk dance also collapsed. They were fully recovered after being similarly treated aboard an ambulance stationed at the Presidential Plaza.
