TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Berkeley Alumni got together yesterday evening to celebrate the signature of a new

cooperation agreement between the University of California Berkeley's (UCB) Haas School of Business and National Taiwan University (NTU) signed earlier that day.

The agreement includes several new partnerships with the NTU and the City University of Hong Kong, and launched the "Berkeley Asia Business Center," headed by Tech Hua-ho, professor of marketing at the Haas School.

Haas School senior faculty members will also be hosted at NTU's campus to promote research collaboration and to teach an annual one-week program in Taipei on leadership, marketing, finance, and entrepreneurship.

"We are here because of the importance we attach to business opportunities for our students in Asia and in Taiwan in particular," said Tom Campell, the Bank of America Dean of UCB's Haas School of Business.

"We believe that our job is to provide an opportunity for our students to become successful in business," he went on, noting that Berkeley is one of the finest public universities in the United States and one of the leading research institutions worldwide.

Wall Street Journal recently ranked the Haas School's MBA program second, up from fifth place last year.

The Berkeley Asia Business Center will enable the Haas School to expand its outreach to Asian business executives, and will provide executive leadership training, advanced management programs, certificates on risk management, and business networking opportunities.

As part of the center's launch, various programs are being offered, including Berkeley Asian Fellows, two new Advanced Management Executive Programs, and Berkeley Asia Leadership Conference.
