St. Kitts, Nevis PM to oversee embassy opening

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Saint Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Denzil Douglas is scheduled to arrive in Taiwan Jan. 27 to preside over the opening of his country’s embassy here, a Ministry of Foreign Affairs official said yesterday.

The embassy is set to open Jan. 28 after two months of preparation, the official said, adding that Minister of Foreign Affairs James Huang will attend the opening ceremony.

According to the official, Douglas will be accompanied by several Saint Kitts and Nevis officials, including Minister of Foreign Affairs Timothy Sylvester Harris and Minister of Agriculture Cedric Roy Liburd, who will sign a technical cooperation accord with Huang.

During his five day visit, Douglas will also meet with President Chen Shui-bian to exchange views on a wide range of issues of mutual concern.

The two countries have enjoyed close cooperative ties and exchanges in various fields since forging diplomatic links in 1983.
